The Minnesota Vikings will try and put aside the Brett Favre-Brad Childress saga when they tangle with the Bears in Chicago on Monday night (8:35 p.m. ET, ESPN).
The star quarterback and head coach have had their disagreements this season over play calling and it came to a head last week when Childress tried to take Favre out of the game against Carolina. Both Favre and Childress have said things have been worked out but that remains to be seen.
What is clear is that Minnesota has not played well in recent weeks. The Vikings started the season 10-1 but they are 1-2 since that time and Favre has three TDs and four interceptions in those games.
Regardless, Minnesota is listed as a 7-point favorite at SBG Global and the total is set at 41.
Minnesota has already clinched the NFC North and they are close to locking up the second seed in the NFC and a first round bye. However, that could slip away if the Vikings fall to the Bears on Monday.
The good news for the Vikings is that the Bears are in total disarray and don’t look like a team that can challenge Minnesota. Earlier this season in Minnesota, the Vikings routed the Bears 36-10; Favre threw three touchdown passes in that game.
Minnesota needs Favre to play better than he has recently, and they also need to run the ball. Adrian Peterson has been held in check the last two games, rushing for just 54 yards combined.
“Our offense starts with Adrian Peterson and that’s where it ends, and we have to get that back on track,” Favre said.
Peterson is averaging 106.5 yards with nine touchdowns in five career games against Chicago.
The Bears have lost eight of their last 10 games and things are a mess. Head coach Lovie Smith’s job may be in jeopardy as well. He is owed a lot of money but the Bears may decide they need to fire him anyway. Quarterback Jay Cutler has been a disaster, throwing 25 interceptions to lead the league.
Here are some key NFL betting stats for Monday night’s game:
