Sports Interaction betting analyst Carson Pike reviews where the money went in NFL Week 6 and where it is in Week 7.
It was a dog day afternoon this past Sunday in the NFL with the underdogs covering in nine games and winning six outright.
The biggest upset of the week happened in Oakland when the Raiders made up for an embarrassing 44-7 Week 5 loss to the New York Giants by defeating the Philadelphia Eagles outright, 13-9.
The win came a week after Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce said that playing the Raiders felt like a scrimmage. Bettors at Sports Interaction obviously had a similar opinion of the Raiders having pushed the Eagles to -15 favorites by kick off. Nothing like a little disrespect to motivate a bad team.
As many upsets as there were, a few teams came through with huge wins. Green Bay shutout the hapless Lions, Tom Brady and company saw a return to form with a stunning 59-0 win over Tennessee, and New Orleans handed the Giants their first loss of the season (and kept their perfect record in tact at the same time).
While the Giants did manage to score 27 points against New Orleans, the Saints must have been the ones who felt like they were playing scrimmage considering the Giants were never in this game.
Week 7 sees the return of the road favorite with no less than six teams laying points away. After their massive victory over Tennessee, the Patriots have their offensive swagger back and will take it to London where they will meet the winless Bucs at Wembley Stadium.
While New England is technically designated the road team, Tampa Bay will not have their hometown fans to back them up and try to inspire them to a victory (or at least a fighting chance). Sports Interaction has opened with the Pats -14 against the Bucs in Old England.
In another huge mismatch, the Indianapolis Colts come off a bye week and hit the road to visit the Rams. The Colts are a force to be reckoned with, and bookmakers agree opening Indy at -13 on the road.
The Rams are certainly not a formidable opponent for Indy, but 13 points is still a lot to give on the road. That said, the Rams play in a dome, so Colts QB Peyton Manning should feel right at home.
The toughest line of the week has easily been the Monday night game when Philadelphia visits Washington. Normally you would expect a tight matchup between division rivals but with all the drama surrounding Washington at the moment, bookmakers did not feel comfortable making the Eagles any less than a 7-point favorite.
Who knows how the Redskins will perform this week? Jim Zorn is still there, but he is not allowed to call plays. Play calling duties have been handed over to a man they hired two weeks ago. The Redskins may not bring much on the field, but at least the front office is exciting!
